Take Full Ownership of Files & Folders

Unable to take ownership of a Folder or a file in windows 8.Here is a simple tutorial on how to take ownership of windows 8 file and folder.
customizing and tweaking windows is essential and we all need top level ownership permission in windows 8 to do so.
The tutorial is based on taking ownership windows 8 using CMD and windows registry.

Steps to Take Full Ownership of Files and Folders:


  1. Download the file: windows 8 ownership.zip
  2. Extract or uncompressed the downloaded content
  3. open the folder
  4. Folder contain two registry files:

  • InstallTakeOwnership 
  • RemoveTakeOwnership


Double click on Install Take Ownership and the below notification appears-

Click on OK and you are done.
Now the only thing which you have to do is just navigate to the directory of your computer and Select the desired folder or file which you want to take the ownership and do a right click.
You can now see the option take Ownership option available in the open list.

How to disable take ownership windows 8 option

  1. open the extracted registry file you downloaded 
  2. click on the RemoveTakeOwnership
